IDMS at the 2010 Horse Fair

The IDMS was well represented at the Iowa Horse Fair held in Des Moines, Ia the weekend of April 10th and 11th. We had several members attend and had 10 riders, 1 lead in rider, 1 donkey in hand, 4 minis and a team. We had a very well rounded group to show each type of equine from our group. The avenue of breeds was filled with Topshin, the IDMS donkey donated to the club by DeWanyne and Debbie Cason, Raspberry, a mule owned by Bird and Sheila Ellison, of Moravia, IA and Honey and her 3 week old baby Lil' Hot Shot, minis owned by Dorie and Carmen Gruetzmacher of Lettts, IA. Kate and Beck, drafts owned by Geoff and Brenda Wilson was also on hand to do some jumping and have wagon rides. Friday was spent unloading, decorating, and cleaning and washing mules and donkeys. The weather was in our favor. We started early Saturday morning with our jump demo in the varied industries building. We had the minis, the mules and the drafts all do some jumping. The unofficial winner was Surprise, owned by Colton Weldon, of Eddyville. The Parade of Breeds was held each day at noon. Our Mule and Donkey Demonstration was held in the Pavilion, Sunday at 1:00. We had 15 minutes to do our demonstration in which the team, riders and in hand animals all did a fine job. The crowd especially liked the baby mini as he ran in the arena and kicked and bucked. He was quite a show in himself. The club also won the Herdmanship contest and visited with several people coming through the barns. The donkey was won by Dave and Judy Sumpter and I'm sure will be happy at her new home. The IDMS members did a great job and should be commended on their efforts to represent the club in such a fine fashion.

Our next event will by the state trail ride @ RiverValley Campground in Farmington, IA.
